An active member of the Manitoba music scene, Rylan Knaggs has been consistently gaining live performance experience across the Blues, Rock, Jazz, and Country genres since the age of 12. An instructor at Mar-Schell’s Music since 2017, Rylan has performed as a member of several University of Manitoba jazz ensembles, South Side Big Band, and at festivals such as Festival du Voyager, TD International Winnipeg Jazz Festival, and MB Safe at Home Festival. 

An alumnus of the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music (Bachelor of Jazz Studies, class of 2020), Knaggs has worked as a sideman and session player with artists such as Juno nominee and Manitoba Country Music Award winner Desiree Dorion, Brandi Vezina, Martin DesJarlais, Banned and Outlawed, among others, while frequenting the local bar circuit with the country/rock cover band North 49. 

Rylan has received a nomination for Guitarist of The Year at the 2021 Manitoba Country Music Awards and is currently pursuing a second bachelor’s degree through the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba, with hopes of becoming a high school band director.  

Combining his ever-developing education and professional experience firmly rooted in the 20 th century guitar repertoire, Rylan’s objective is to clearly identify and define the goals of each individual student. This allows him to construct tailor-made plans of action designed to help students of all ages and experience levels advance through the various stages of musical development – with equal attention given to the areas of technique, history, theory, and composition/improvisation. Knaggs’ guiding philosophy maintains a high degree of respect for music as an art form, with the nurturing of individuality and creativity at the heart.
